Duality: Prologue

"Pick one." It is, quite frankly, a dreadful instruction. The universe itself seems unable to make up its mind, caught in an eternal tug-of-war between expansion and contraction. Even quantum physics suggests that given the choice between two slits, a photon prefers to simply take both.

We start life facing the impossible diplomatic crisis of 'Mom vs. Dad.' It hardly gets easier from there: left brain or right, work or play, the grand or the simple.

Now, with some years behind me, I find myself drawn to the dualities that truly matter in how we create and experience the world around us: quality versus quantity, simplicity versus richness, minimalism versus ornamentation, innovation versus nostalgia.

As there is rarely one right answer, these articles are written as a dialogue between heart and head—exploring what we gain and lose with each choice.
